On October 23rd, four outstanding Albuquerque composers, Cali Shaw, Eileen Shaughnessy, Zack Freeman, and Julian Wild, will perform a collaborative concert in a unique format called “In the Round.” The presentation will consist of two hour long sets, the first in which each artist will take a turn sharing his or her own material, and the second in which everyone will take a turn performing and interpreting one another’s compositions.
About the Artists:
Cali Shaw incorporates acoustic guitars, banjo, charango, catchy lyrics and whistling. The result is a unique blend of songwriting and a fun twist on modern folk music. Working with some of the most talented and diverse musicians in the region, he’s consistently pushed the Americana-folk-rock envelope beyond its traditional realms with the Cali Shaw Band. His eclectic cross-genre conception is perfectly displayed on his newest album, Under The Olive Tree and was Awarded Best Adult Contemporary and Nominated for Best Folk at the 2016 NM Music Awards.

Eileen Shaughnessy is best known as the dynamic front-woman for the folk-pop band Eileen & the In-Betweens. Originally from Minnesota, Shaughnessy is a singer-songwriter that has toured around the U.S. with both the In-Betweens and her previous band the ExLovers. Now based in Albuquerque NM, she teaches at the University of New Mexico in the Sustainability Studies and Women Studies Programs. Eileen’s songs often reflect the complex material she teaches: feminism, racial justice, and concern for the earth.

Zack Freeman is known around the 505 as a one-man musical group using only a sampler and his voice to make his colorful lyrics come to life. He has toured nationally with the A cappella group Graffiti Tribe, appeared on the TV show America’s Got Talent and was recognized with an award for best vocal percussionist at the National Harmony Sweepstakes. His songs preach a message of peace, community and social justice.

Julian Wild is the mastermind behind the Albuquerque performing art and music project Wild Humans. Heavily involved with local theater and music scene, Wild has consistently incorporated dynamics and theatrics into his live performances.
Formerly fronting the popular high-energy Indie-rock band The Breaktone; he has recently transitioned his musical style to incorporate lush acoustic arrangements to back his folk-tinged pop songs.
